Condolences

Condolence From: Kimberly R. O'Dell
Condolence: Karen hired me to be her Administrative Assistant in the 80s at Montgomery Regional Hospital and once told me I was one of her favorite hires. I wished I had told her, she was my favorite employer. I dearly loved her and working for her was one of the most wonderful years of my life.

Karen inspired everyone in the Nursing Department as Director of Nursing. She brought forth the Baylor plan, a work/study program in order for those that couldn't afford a Nursing Degree - have it paid in return for working weekends while they went to school during the week. It was instrumental in covering the nursing shortage for the hospital while giving regular staff weekends off. This was only one of many plans Karen put in place to help others.

Karen's personality filled with warmth, humility and grace, were truly the signature of the woman that we came to know, and will fondly remember. Her presence will be sorely missed, but her impact on the Montgomery Regional Hospital Nursing Department remains immeasurable.

My thoughts are with Karen’s beloved husband, Jim and her entire family.

Condolence: I am so sorry to hear that Karen has died. I remember her from working with her at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg, Va. She was a very dedicated nurse who cared so much for the patients there. I know the family is proud of her accomplishments.
I send my sincere sympathy to the family and especially to Jim.
