Benjamin “Benjie” E Cate, 62, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 7, 2022. Benjie was born April 23, 1959 in Kawit, Cavite, Philippines. He served 3 years in the U.S. Army and then dedicated his strong work ethic to the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years. He enjoyed an early retirement at age 55. Being a homebody at heart, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and children. He also had a special companionship with their family dog, Molly, whom he absolutely adored. With the flexibility and freedom of retired life, he loved to travel back and forth to the Philippines to be with his sisters and close friends.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years Mylene; son Rex; daughter Shella and son in law Ian; sisters Loretta, Evelyn, Marietta, and Delilah. He was preceded in death by parents Benigno and Mercedes; sister Iluminada; brothers Ruben, Juanito, and Edgardo.
Benjie is described by his family as a good provider. He was selfless, always helping family and friends in need. He embodied wisdom and knowledge. He was a pillar of strength and support. He was tough on the outside, but inside, he had a soft and loving heart.
It was in Benjie’s wishes to be cremated with no services. Benjie’s wife and children would like to thank family and friends, near and far, for their endless support. May he rest in eternal peace.

Uncle Benjie always kept to himself and had a strict demeanor, but his gentle heart and compassion overshadowed what he showed on the outside. I regret I didn’t get to see him often enough. Rest In Peace, Uncle Benjie.
Your niece, Daisy
