Carmen David Gotterup, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2023, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was born on February 3, 1944, in Manila, Philippines. Carmen lived a long and fulfilling life, leaving behind a cherished legacy built upon her unwavering dedication to her family.
Carmen’s greatest joy was taking care of her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her nurturing spirit and unconditional love provided them with a strong foundation and support throughout their lives. She embraced motherhood with grace and selflessness, guiding her children towards a bright future and instilling in them the values of love, compassion, and perseverance.
Left to honor Carmen’s memory are her beloved son Edwin Gonzales and his wife Maira Gonzales, daughter Evangeline Siapno and her husband Roberto Siapno, son Jose Gonzales and his wife Ann Gonzalez, daughter Nenita Mimita, son Randy Gotterup and his wife Nicole Gotterup, son James Gotterup and wife Audry Gotterup, daughter Julieta Powell and her husband John Powell, and daughter Marites Espiritu. Carmen will also be remembered by her treasured grandchildren Carmelete Gonzales, Emmil Gonzales, Roselyn Gonzales, Jessica Gonzales, Alexis Gonzales, Roberto Niu, Eimy Niu, Ronald Niu, Rafael Bugaris, Judy Gonzales, John Gonzales, Jessica Lastrilla, Romnick De La Cruz, Jerry Mimita, Mark Mimita, Skyler Gotterup, Logan Gotterup, Kaylin Gotterup, Alea Gotterup, Matthew Gotterup, Joseph Gotterup, Jay Powell, Remalhyn Espiritu, Reimar Espiritu, Jeffry Espiritu, and her adored great-grandchildren Amelia, Makaila, Aysia, Ernesto, Benjamin, Arabella, Jason, and Cirilla.
Beyond her role as a caring mother and grandmother, Carmen’s impact on the world was immeasurable. Her selflessness and love created a ripple effect that touched the lives of those around her. Carmen’s true legacy lies in the hearts of her family and friends.
