Carol Josephine Baldwin, 76, began her new journey with the Lord after her long journey with Alzheimer’s ended on Monday, August 24, 2020. She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family. Carol was a Christmas baby born on December 25, 1943 to the late Elpidio and Helen Manoso.
Preceding her in death are her parents: Elpidio and Helen Manoso; her siblings: Margaret Manoso, Gloria Godfrey, Mildred “Gertrude” Henning, Linda Faye Acel, Elpidio Manoso Jr., and Carl Wayne Manoso; her nephews: Ricky, Henry, Michael, and Steven Henning, and 2 baby boy Godfreys; 2 great-nieces; and a great-nephew.
Left to cherish her memory are: her husband of 45 years, Barton L. Baldwin “Boo Boo” of Virginia Beach; daughter: Mary Lou Jacinto of Virginia Beach; sons: Celestino B. Jacinto Jr. (Patty) of Norfolk, and Anthony W. Jacinto (Renay) of Deltona; sisters: Anna Kurtyka (Tom) of Saratoga Springs, and Brenda Henry (Phil) of Lebanon; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends that she considered family, especially Ruth Jacinto who became like an adopted daughter.
Whether it be babysitting, caregiver for a sick loved one, or sharing a simple recipe, she was always happy to lend a helping hand. Carol will long be remembered for her kindness, compassion, thoughtfulness, and of course her pancit and lumpia. She also loved to travel with her family. Her most memorable trips include: a trip to visit one of her sisters involving “conversation” with local cows that still gets a laugh from family and friends; Elvis Presley’s museum and grave in Memphis; a cruise with her sister, niece and daughter; a later cruise with her 3 children; and because of the child in her that loved Minnie and Mickey, she always looked forward to the several trips she took with her sister to Disney World.
Carol had a passion for baking cakes and making candy. Her family looked forward to her fudge, tiger butter, and chocolate covered cherries at Christmas, and the peanut butter eggs at Easter. Her other hobbies included: crocheting, playing darts, and gardening to name a few. She was very lucky playing cards with friends and family, on casino trips, and especially bingo which was her all-time favorite.
She was so loved by her family and friends. Many memories were made at the many family gatherings she hosted (or helped host) at her home, neighborhood hangout, and civic center. She loved to dance and was well known for her favorite line dance “The Wobble”. Carol, the pride of her 3 children and a loving “Damal”, “Grandma B”, and “Mimi” touched the heart of everyone she met and will be forever missed!
The family extends their gratitude to all who traveled from out of town. Special thanks to sister-in-law Cynthia Butler and niece Kelly and her husband Leo Amaral for all of their help, love, and support during Carol’s last days.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm with a celebration of life starting at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, September 2nd, 2020, at Family Choice Funerals. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 8th, 2020 at Christ the King Church located at 1803 Columbia Ave, Norfolk, VA 23509. At the family’s request, please don’t wear black. Blue was Carol’s favorite color.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carol’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.

I will always remember Grandma B as being so happy all the time. Every time I had to explain how she always was I would say “I never seen her mad, always happy!!” & that’s how I love to remember her. Singin & dancin, always giving me plenty of hugs & kisses. Coming to Virginia to visit always meant going over to Grandmas house… MY FAVORITE PART! She was always making sure everyone was good to go, putting others before herself. I will never forget that smile & “hi baby” every time she looked at me. I love you Grandma. Nothing will be the same without you, but I know I always have you!!!! -Gab

My Damal, my angel, I am having a hard time writing this so I will make it short and sweet. You will forever be with me in everything I do, I love you.
