Catherine Jean Brohan-Giambrone, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, transitioned to spirit with dignity, surrounded by love, on September 25, 2021. Catherine was born on January 12, 1960, in Brooklyn, New York to Eugene and Dorothy Brohan.
From here on out we’ll call her Cathy, as she preferred in life. Cathy worked as a business owner and partner for family owned Dynamic Plumbing and Gas Company with her husband Ray. She was also a member of several Catholic churches including St. John the Apostle where she taught CCD class every week for nearly 10 years.
Cathy loved playing roller derby and was a member of the Mid-Atlantic Derby League. As previously stated, she was known as Cathy in life but on the track, she was “Silent But Violent,” affectionately nicknamed “Vi”. When she wasn’t skating, she was at crossfit, spin class, or casually practicing her stamina by roller skating around the Great Dismal Swamp or running up giant hills. Cathy’s home was always filled with rock n’ roll in the form of Aerosmith, or Heart, a kitchen aroma that rivals the most experienced of bakers, and sweet ‘I love you’s.’ Cathy was even known to break out the guitar from time to time, a passion for classical guitar especially.
She is survived by her beloved soulmate and husband of 33 years, Raymond Giambrone; “you’re too much like me” daughter, Chelsea Giambrone; her first best friend and younger sister Helen Brohan; and her fur children whom anyone would be lucky to be reincarnated as, Piper and Harlo.
She was predeceased by her father, Eugene and mother, Dorothy.
Cathy will always be remembered as a gustatory genius, a mother who loved with every cell in her body, a wife who was also a best friend, a sister, a teacher, a derby girl, an athlete, a creator, and a fierce warrior for life.
At the end: “Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt.”
― Kurt Vonnegut

Dear Ray and Chelsea,
Terry called with the sad news of Cathy’s passing. Though our family hasn’t een close all these years, I was touched by your beautiful story of her life. From the aromas emanating from her kitchen that rivaled bakeries to her church activities and most importantly her love of roller derby, you painted a picture of a love – a life shared devotedly to each other and family. You were given a truly remarkable marriage in all that Cathy shared with you. Use these treasured moments of your 33 years to wrap around you as a comforting cloak when times seem weary or difficult. She gave so much and continues in her legacy to give to you and your daughter. Cherish her memory and all the joy she gave each day. I know you will. Bless you with Peace each day.
Love, Cousin Barbara Thomas
