Charles Whittaker

Charles Whittaker, 91, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 in Virginia Beach, VA. Born on October 14, 1923 in Barbados, he was the son of Millicient Whittaker. Charles worked as a Maintenance Technician for the state of New York for 40 years and was a Deacon of the Unity Baptist Tabernacle Church in Mt. Vernon, NY. He loved the outdoors, watching baseball, listening to gospel music, singing and spending time with his family. His personality was to get along and care about others. He will be remember for his hearty laugh and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his former spouse, Willie Mae Gray; two daughters, Esther Pooler of Chesapeake, VA, Ruth Gray of Norfolk, VA; two sons, Norman Dwyer and his wife, Deloris of Sumter, SC, Frederick Gray of Far Rockaway, NY; four grandchildren, Terry Dwyer of Georgia, Osei Dwyer of South Carolina, Michael Pooler of Chesapeake, VA, Ashley Pooler of Chesapeake, VA; and numerous other loving family and friends.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2014, 1:00 p.m., at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, 524 Cedar Rd., Chesapeake, VA 23322. Bishop Courtney McBath will officiate the service.
