
Clarence D. “Doug” Truitt, Jr., 78, of Hughes Avenue in South Norfolk, passed away on August 25, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Born June 26, 1933 in Excelsior Springs, MO, he was the son of the late Clarence D., Sr. and Ada Ellsworth Truitt. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer with 23 years of service. Recently, he had worked at Wal-Mart at Sam’s Circle for the past 10 years.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Winnifred “Winnie” Truitt; four daughters, Janet Lingle and husband, Harvey of Chesapeake, Wanda Johnson and husband, Donnie of Virginia Beach, Terry Ward and husband, Mark of Chesapeake, Chele’ Cruz of Chesapeake; a son, Randy Hamer and Edna of Norfolk; daughter-in-law, Joan Terry of Norfolk; 16 grandchildren, Trish and Paul, D.J., J.R., A.J., Shawna and Rob, Bobby, Joey, Chris, Amanda, Jon-Jon, Derek (D.J.), Cody and Skylar, Tyler, Tiffani, Ariel, and Brianna; 9 great-grandchildren, Dustin, Angel, Trystan, Alyssa, Skylar, Dominic, Audrey, Trinity, and Ayden; a sister, Vera Fox, her companion, Gilbert Mullins and family of Queen City, MO; and dear friends, George “Sledge” Hamer, Shannon and Brian Robinson and their sons, Nik and Devin of all of East Tawas, MI, and Mary Curbow, Eric Krigbaum, and Sheila Tyler, all of Florence, SC, and Vanessa Krigbaum and Ebony and Jeremiah Cabello and their families, of Washington state. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Dee Gentile; a son, Robert Eugene Truitt; a sister, Mary Ann Creasey; a brother, Leroy Truitt; and a granddaughter, Kristin.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 1st at 3:00 p.m. at Family Choice Funerals & Cremations, 5401 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
