Constance Tilley, 75, born in Durham, NC on March 7th, 1943 at Duke Hospital. She graduated from Hillside High School in Durham in 1961. In high school she was recognized in the local community as a civil rights activist and participated in peaceful marches and protests during the Civil Rights movement.
Out of high school she worked in Bobby’s Coffee Shop in Brooklyn, NY. Constance was also a nurse’s aide at Brooklyn Jewish Hospital. Constance had a fulfilling and successful career at Bankers Trust in Manhattan, NY, where she started as a clerk and worked her way up to bank supervisor. Constance retired after working at Bankers Trust for 34 years. She received many accolades and certificates for exceptional performance.
Her hobbies included the love of Sports, her Dogs (Regine, Chrystal, Lexi and Reggie), Fine jewelry, Shopping and Fine Dining, with her favorite food being Corn and Thai Food. She was helpful in her community and loved to laugh and celebrate good times with her family and friends. She was very spiritual and loved the Lord. In the early 1980’s she was Baptized in the Catholic Faith.
She was family oriented and altruistic in nature. She leaves to cherish of her memory: Sisters: Frances Thorpe, Deann Taylor, Betty Lou Tilley, Brother: Emmett (Martha) Tilley Jr.; Special Nieces: Kimberly Tilley Thompson, Cheryl Taylor, Cherie Taylor, Joiee Thorpe, Tonjia Coverdale, Latoya Taylor-Pallugna, Andreya Padmore, Elise Thorpe, Corinne Thorpe; Nephews: Bobby Thorpe, Emmett Tilley III, Randall Thorpe, Chris Thorpe, William Hester, Isadore Hester, James Hester and a host of other Great Nieces and Great Nephews and a long life special friend Howard Ramsey. She cared for all her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children.
She was preceded in death by her Father: Emmitt Tilley Sr; Mother: Classie Tilley; Niece: Shirley (Niecy) Bell; Nephews: Andre Thorpe, Roderick Thorpe.
