Daniel Rees Wallis finished his earthly sojourn on January 17, 2018, and has passed out of the wavering, changing earthly boundaries of space and time into the unchanging light and glory of eternity.

He leaves behind his parents, James R. Wallis, Jr. and Janice Lynette Wallis of Chesapeake, VA; his brother, Aaron Bradley Wallis, San Diego, CA; sister Glenna Joy Wallis, Salt Lake City, Utah; sister Christina Marie Toal, Jackson, Mississippi, and brothers-in-law, Eran Rosines, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mathew Austin Toal, Jackson, Mississippi. He also had one loving grandparent, Harold Edward McKinney, of Riverside, California.

Daniel’s great love were the thoughts and ideas which he expressed so eloquently in writing, in mathematical equations and computations, and in the language of computer programming. All of us who were privileged to know him and love him, also knew his love for us, and for the creatures God has made. He loved animals: his pet ducks, turtles, dogs, cats, and most deeply, a Pennsylvania country bullfrog – the joy of all the family with its deep voice and winsome personality.

His awareness of how animals are butchered for human consumption turned him into a committed vegan. He avoided all animal products, and enjoyed gardening with his mom, Janice, and raising his own varieties of hot peppers. He enjoyed cooking with his sisters and mother-his sourdough bread was best eaten right out of the oven, slathered in butter. Daniel was personally responsible for the rapid and positive recovery of this father, Jim, from a triple- bypass heart surgery in 2017. We are so grateful.

Daniel’s family and friends knew him as an intense and brilliant thinker, who could also enjoy hours of cat sitting, or camping and hiking in the wilderness. Daniel was a Star Scout and had earned 27 or so Boy Scout badges, but never wanted to do an Eagle Scout project. Just the accomplishment of those many badges was his joy and reward.

Daniel played classical guitar, and lately practiced on an aboriginal digeridoo. He wrote music, cartoon strips, worked with clay, but most of all expressed his inner Daniel through the mysterious language of computers. Daniel graduated with honors in Math and Computer Science from Old Dominion University. He was recruited by the NSA for his advanced mathematical abilities. He worked for 2 years as a designer for the Newport News Shipbuilding division of Northrop Grumman.

He leaves behind a computer game with an original artificial intelligence and a secure multi- player platform. For a six-year period, he averaged a prodigious 45,000 lines of code per year in this pursuit.

As a child Daniel enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of the body of Christ, and was baptized by his father, James R. Wallis, Jr. after a profession of faith, and upon a clear demonstration of the life and gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Simply put, Daniel was kind and compassionate. We are so sad to see him go, each moment now of silence, of conversations we can’t start or finish, only increase our desire to see him beyond the Great Divide and join him again in friendship and in joy. The thirty-two short years we had with him passed too quickly, and we are now longing for untold numbers of 32 x 32 x 32 years together one day in heaven.
