VIRGINIA BEACH- On November 18, 2012. David H. Rockwell passed peacefully in his home with his family by his side. David was born January 24, 1943 in Iowa to the late L.D. Rockwell and Mary Rockwell. In 1961 he joined the Navy and started his 30 year career/adventure. He retired as Chief Petty Officer and survived 2 Wars, Vietnam and the first Gulf War. He retired in 1991 in style riding in the decommissioning USS Wisconsin.
Dave is survived by his loving wife Paula Rockwell; 4 daughters, Mercy Kemp, Elizabeth Garcia, Shelley Rockwell and Jennifer Rockwell as well as 7 grandchildren who affectionately call him “poppa”, Chad Rockwell, Conner Kemp, Ashlynn Garcia, Brendin Snyder, Janice Rockwell, Haley Clark and Triston Clark; two brothers, Daniel and William Rockwell and their families.
Dave was known for many things of which he was a devoted sailor and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. He was also affectionately called by all the kids in the neighborhood and friends of his children as Mr. Dave! Dave was loving generous, kind, funny, smart, witty, strong of mind and character he will be missed greatly by all.
