VIRGINIA BEACH – Carolyn Dawn Pope passed away at home on July 2, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. A native of Virginia Beach, she was preceded in death by her parents Wilbur Sr. and Francis Winslow and her brother Allen Winslow.
She is survived by her husband Timothy L. Pope and son Eugene Shane Pope; two brothers Wilbur “Teenie” Winslow Jr. and his wife Cindy, Michael Winslow; nieces and nephews Whitney, Amy, Shannon, Mark, Jenifer, and Stephen Winslow, and Thomas Pope. She is also survived by her mother-in law, Carol Pope who loved her like her own daughter; and in-laws, Tammy and Jen Winslow, Mike and Cathy Pope.
The family would like to thank all of their friends for their prayers and support. With special thanks to Marilyn Fall for her love, compassion, and help and Rebecca Rymal for being here throughout this long hard battle. Thanks also to all the health care professionals who treated her with not just their minds, but also their hearts. Dawn’s deep love, compassion, wisdom, and ability to see what was truly meaningful in life made her the person family and friends came to for help, comfort and clarity in life. Dawn worked in the health care field for over 20 years, most recently as office manager at “Elder Care at Home” where she worked tirelessly to improve the lives of all who needed help. Dawn loved her family, friends, and traveling. She has gone from our world, but only travels over the horizon to a place we can only imagine, full of people happy to see her again.
A service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, July 7th at 2 p.m. in Mt. Pleasant Mennonite Church, 2021 Mt. Pleasant Road, Chesapeake with Rev. Frank Jennings officiating. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Lung Association (www.lungusa.org/donate). Online condolences may be made by using the online guest book.

Tim, Shane & Family, we cannot begin to tell you all how much you are loved and in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Dawn was the most beautiful, kind, unselfish, and generous person we have ever met. She was a good wife, wonderful mother, and a best friend and sister. She will truly be remembered as a one of a kind gem.

of all i have lost I will miss her the most!
My heart is heavy for your loss, and my prayers are with all of the family. I’ve known Dawn since she was a very little girl, and when I think of her I will always be able to hear her laughter, and see her smile.
Carolyn I know you will be dancing with the angels in heaven. Same as when you were a young girl in all those wonderful recitals I attended. Rest in peace.
Mrs. Pope, because calling you Dawn just never felt right :P, I just wanted to tell you how much your love, compassion, and caring has influenced me over the years. You were always there when anybody needed you and I never felt like ‘just a friend’ in your home, I felt like family. I am family as far as I’m concerned, which makes this loss particularly painful. I’ll keep an eye out for Shane and Mr. Pope. You will be fondly remembered and sorely missed, Mrs. Pope. Be at peace. Love, Daniel.
Tim, Shane, Carol and family,No words can express the sorrow we feel for your loss. From her bio and from what people have written, Dawn certainly touched so many lives in so many positive and loving ways. Few people are lucky enough to be so fondly thought of and even less are fortunate enough to have known someone as special as Dawn. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you all.Love, Gary, Holly, Greg, Michael, Erika and Art

Dear Tim and Shane,I know it’s been years since we’ve last seen each other, but Kathy Lottman passed alone the notice of Dawn’s passing to me. I don’t know if you remember me, but I certainly remember all of you very much so. I have such vivid, fond memories of Dawn from my years I spent in Virginia Beach. She was always so kind and generous and fun to be around. I enjoyed knowing her and the time we all spent together in those years. Dawn’s kind spirit I’m sure warmly touched many people during her life as she touched mine. My deepest sympathy goes out to you and all your family during this very difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers,Warmest Regards,Sarita Winter and family
Tim and Shane,I’m so sorry for your loss.My thoughts and prayers are with you both.
I worked under Dawn at Lake Prince about 8 years ago. She was the best boss ever and truly loved life and her patients. I remember her getting comfortable in her office walking around with shoes off and laughing. I have always had a high regard for her. I’m sure she will be missed terribly by all of you. May God use her special caring talents in heaven as she used them on earth. Peace be with you all.
We tend to question why when someone like Dawn is taken from us. I believe she was Angel Manager. Things are not going so great in this world and God needed the BEST to help Him out! Dawn was the best at everything she did…she was the best period. There is a very bright star shining in the heavens now. Our hearts and prayers are with you Tim and Shane, and the rest of the family.
Dawn will be missed. My family is blessed to have known & love her. We will pray for her family & loved ones & only smile when we think & speak of her. Love, Missy, John, Amanda & Dylan
