Dewey Neil Smith, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2014 in Virginia Beach, VA. Born February 15, 1923 in Norman, OK, he was the son of the late Robert Hatton Smith and Ira Mae Barrett Smith. Dewey served honorably in the United States Navy and was a World War II veteran. He dearly loved his family and was primary care giver for his mother until her passing. He demonstrated his godly character by his selfless acts of giving, not only to his children and grandchildren, but to strangers in need. A hard-working man, Dewey farmed the land for over 22 years in Dexter, NM. When he finally laid down his plow, he picked up a spatula and ran his own restaurant for 16 years in Ruidoso Downs, NM. Dewey finished out his working years as an Auctioneer in the El Paso, TX real estate market. A godly man who would do anything for anyone, he will be missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his loving memory are his daughter, Neila G. Bedell and her husband, Steven of Virginia Beach, VA; a son, Robert N. Smith of Lorena TX; grandchildren, Jason N. and Michael A. Bedell of Virginia Beach, VA, Natalie E. Duran of Alexandria, VA, and Bradley Smith of Davilla, TX; and four great-grandchildren, Madison, Chloe and Roxy of Virginia Beach, VA, and Brianna Smith of Davilla, TX.
