
Donald Alan Siler, 90, of, Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away January 2, 2023. Donald was born on June 9, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio, to LeRoy and Ruth (Doerschuk) Siler.
Don spent most of his life in NE Ohio. He graduated from North Royalton HS. There he met, and then later married, his wife of 56 years, Fern (French) Siler. Don and Fern maintained their close HS friendships throughout their lives.
Don served in the Navy, where he taught pilots to fly. He gained employment with Ohio Bell. There, he worked his way up from a splicer to a management position as an engineer. After decades of employment with Ohio Bell, he chose to take an early retirement at age 52. He continued to work other jobs. He and Fern also built a successful business together, Bayshore Country Barn, in Marblehead, OH. There, Don created stained glass lamps and other beautiful art pieces. He learned his craft from his father, Leroy.
While raising their three kids together, the family enjoyed camping, boating, swimming, sports, 4H, and caring for a variety of animals including a horse, dogs, cats, birds, and other small pets. Throughout the years, Don especially loved his cats. Don and his family also enjoyed traveling. A favorite destination was Virginia Beach, or anywhere near the water. Don was also a skilled carpenter and enjoyed home design and renovating or re-building his properties. Don was also an avid golfer and joined many leagues over the years. Don loved nature, wildlife and was a history buff. He also enjoyed watching and rooting for Cleveland sports teams. He was a member of the ELKS Lodge. Don remained very active and was fiercely independent. He enjoyed riding his trike bike and racked up well over 1000 miles. He even built a deck on the back of his FL home at the age of 89.
After the passing of Don’s second wife in 2022, he moved to Chesapeake, VA to be with family.
Don is survived by his children: Darryl (Steve Blackmon) Siler, Karen (Carlos) Cardo, and Lisa (Richard) Oddo; grandchildren: Carl (Samantha) Cardo, Allison (Israel) Ramos, Marissa Oddo and Joshua Oddo; great grandchildren: Greyson, Adelynn Rose & Deklan Cardo, and Lucia Ramos.
Don is predeceased by his beloved first wife, Fern Siler, as well as his most recent wife, Tina (Moser) Siler.
Don will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend.
Don will be laid to rest at Mound Hill Cemetery in Seville, OH next to Fern. His family will hold a private Celebration of Life gathering at a later date, so that they may all attend.
