Douglas E. Hardy, 89, loving and devoted husband, father and friend passed away May, 31, 2019 in the comfort of his own home. Douglas was born December 15, 1929 to Pearl Thomas and George Edward Hardy in Johnson City, New York. He was predeceased by both his parents and five siblings; Pearl Reardon, Lillian Crowley, Robert Hardy, Howard Hardy, and Jane Gustin. Douglas was a professional driver and belonged to NY Teamsters Union. Douglas enlisted and served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1949 then went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1952.
A man of honor, integrity, and dignity, Douglas will always be lovingly remembered by all as a kind and humorous family man. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 40 years, Marie E. Hardy; siblings, Evelyn Diltz and June Lewis; children, Nora Clark, Shar Waters, Georgette Beeby, Chris Hardy, Gloria Cerniway, and Jill Hettig; 15 grandchildren and quite a few great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Sunday, July 26, 2019 starting at 11am at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. A member of Nimmo Methodist Church, Arthur Seamster, will be officiating the service. A reception will be held afterwards at 2301 Wildwood Road, Chesapeake, VA 23323.
