
Edith Schade Akins, 80, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 in her home. Born in Germany on June 5, 1932, she was the daughter of the late M. Fritz Justus Schade and Magdalene Schorer Schade, and wife of the late John Akins. Edith was retired from Virginia Beach Public Schools where she had worked as a Bus Driver for over 25 years. She enjoyed finding bargains while she shopped, loved cooking dinner for the special people in her life, and found joy taking care of her house plants. Edith was a very strong and courageous woman who took much pride in caring for her home.
She is survived by her children, Johnny Akins, Linda Akins, Karen Hobbs and her husband, Billy, Janet Ferguson and her husband, Ron, Sandi Dowdy her husband, Gary, and Robert Akins and his wife, Stephanie; sister, Ruth Henkel; several grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and pet, Tori. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her son, Raymond.
A Graveside Service will be held May 20, 2013 at noon at Princess Anne Memorial Park, 1110 N. Great Neck Rd. Virginia Beach, VA 23454. The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of Sentara Home Health Care and Virginia Oncology, with special thanks to Dr. Celeste Bremer and Hospice Nurse, Doris for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in her name to the American Cancer Society.
