Elizabeth Correll Clancy, known to family and friends as “Buffie,” died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday morning. She was two weeks shy of her 99th birthday when she found her way home.
Mrs. Clancy was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 15, 1915 to James and Mimi Dunlop. She spent most of her years in the New York City area, including Forest Hills and Manhattan and had a long career as a legal receptionist.
But her real passion was staying in close touch with some 25 offspring, including two children, six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, as well as many close friends. She never failed to send birthday cards and gifts, never hesitated to inquire about all of their news.
She is survived by her son, Paul; granddaughters Beth and Jenny; grandsons Jeff, Chris, Greg and Drew; great-grandchildren John, Annie, Aidan, Carson, Zoey, Ryan, Ben, Nikolai, Taran, Calen, Correll, Sage, Anya and Tristan; and great-great grandchildren. Eva, Kristin and Tevan, as well as her longtime companion, Lillian. Those who did not survive her were her husband, Russell, her sister Kay and her beloved daughter, Corrie.
She moved to Norfolk seven years ago and lived independently at John Knox Towers.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at Christ & St, Luke’s Episcopal Church.

Dear Paul,
I am so sorry to hear about your mother. What a lovely, lovely person she was. I so enjoyed working with her at Lake Taylor. She was a fighter and a joy. Her sense of humor was so refreshing. She spoke so highly of you. May she rest in peace and may you have peace and comfort at this time. Please take care and know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Paul and Barbara, we were so sorry to hear about Betty, and you are in our thoughts constantly today. She was such a delightful person and a fighter to the end. We have to be out of town on Saturday, so we aren’t able to be with you then, but we will be in spirit.
