Elli Friedrich Carroll was born in Friedberg, Germany on June 12th, 1936 and passed away on June 7th, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Rosa Friedrich, and her brothers Heinz and Walter Friedrich. Elli moved to the United States in 1956 after marrying her husband Leroy Carroll. The couple moved extensively throughout the US while Leroy served in the Army, and finally settled in the College Park area of Virginia Beach, VA in 1975. Leroy Carroll preceded Elli in death in 1996. Elli was once again able to find love and happiness with her special loving partner Robert Oglesby until his death in 2006.
Throughout her life, Elli was known to have a love of gardening as shown by her beautiful yard. She was passionate of her love for yellow roses, as the florist can attest too. Her babies were her three Dachshunds that she cared for daily and thought of as part of the family. Although she was never blessed with children, she was lucky enough to have Marvin & Christy Rahman, Bruce Wright, and Myrna Hassfield as her “adopted children”. Elli made many friends in her life and considered her group of friends from Catherine’s as her extended family.
A special thank-you to Carol Mayhew and Marvin Rahman for their love and care as they remained by Elli’s side to the end. Also, we’d like to thank all of her friends for their continued prayers and support in this difficult time. Those who knew her will never forget her love of life and independent spirit. In all situations, she will certainly be remembered, as the great Frank Sinatra sang it, as always doing it “My Way”.
