Ray was the most kind hearted person I ever known. Help was always willing to help, the best he could. He had so much love for everyone. I will miss you and you will as you have been the best brother- in-law. With love Grant and Claudia McCann.
Ray & his family were Portlock next door neighbors to my family during my growing up years. Our parents were best friends for well over 70 years. I always felt a very special brotherly relationship to both Ray & his brothers. I looked up to Ray as a protector. His family was an extension of ours. I am so sorry to learn about Ray’s passing. I know Grace & William are so happy to have their son home, as we here cry for our loss of him. Rest In Peace, Brother.
Our sincerest condolences to Ann, Karen, Richard, and the family. We always enjoyed seeing Ray, and we will miss him deeply.
Ellis & Kerstin Hudgins, and family
Lt. Starrette was one of the first training officers I met when I was at the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office back in 1989. Over the years I found him to be a dedicated individual who was honest, sincere, and more than willing to lend a helping hand.
My condolences go out to his family at this time.
My sincere condolences to the family for the loss of your loved one. My memories of Ray go all the way back to our Portlock days and softball at Franklin Field. Ray was older then me so watching him, with that blond hair and stocky build, hit balls over the right field fence I thought he was “the Mick.” Later, as I got to know the Starrette family, I often felt like the fourth brother. Rest in Peace my brother.
To Ray’s family,I just want to tell you I;am so for your loss,I know he will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.My husband Richard Braziel use to be his partner on the police department in South Norfolk in 1962. Praying for you all.
Ray was always a fixture at St. Gregory The Great RC Church. He always carried himself in a quiet way that conveyed a reassuring measure of “I’m here to help, what would you like me to do?” Over the years, I cannot begin to tell you how many times Ray would step up and make sure there were sufficient Ushers – and most often, pitching in himself, despite dealing with various complications that were making his life tougher and tougher. His Marine spirit would always shine through – Semper Fi Ray.
Ray took exceptional pride in being a Sir Knight of Fr. Michael J. McGivney Assembly and very active in St. Benedict Council. He will be greatly missed by his fraternal brothers.
Rest easy Ray – we have the watch.
