
CHESAPEAKE – Fred Stephen Hartson, 52, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family. He is the son of the late Leland, Jr. and Dorothy Hartson. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by sisters, Cindy Short, Gena Hartson; brothers, Douglas and Timothy Hartson. During his career as a welder Fred worked on the second span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel as well as the Norfolk Tunnels. He enjoyed NASCAR, woodworking, fabricating, gardening and most of all spending time with his beloved family.
He is survived by his sons, Lee Shawn Hartson, Joshua Serdar Hartson and their mother Serap Seekins; sweetheart, Allison Silva; sisters Cheri Johnson, Susan Kamholtz and Patricia Hartson, as well as many more family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3pm at Family Choice Funerals & Cremations, 5401 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464. Please use the links provided to sign the online guestbook.

Mike and I were so sad to hear of Fred’s passing. We will always remember his laugh and how he loved Allison and his boys. He will be missed, but always in our hearts.

T – Twinkle, Tinkerer – Fred’s eyes would light up and a smirk would appear as he shared jokes, jokingly played or tinkered with decorating objects adding a whimsical appearance.S – Selfless, steadfast, stouthearted – Fred was selfless with a big heart full of love. He never thought twice about sharing his time, money, food and expertise with anyone. He was steadfast in his ways but stout hearted.O – Original – He created a tripod winched turkey hoist for frying turkeys. He dreamed of patenting his inventions.N – Noble – Fred was a proud strong and noble man. He was tenacious in his beliefs with strong bonds to his sons, family and friends.

He was a remarkable individual with often boundless energy, creative originality and boundless resourcefulness in his pursuit of whatever vision was in his scope of endeavor. We related like brothers in our mutual interests and humor. I pray his sons will carry on the best of his talents and gifts in their lives. My hearth goes out to you, Lee and Josh, I’m glad to have been known as your Uncle Randy and wish you all the best!

Fred worked with us for many years and was a friend. We visited with him in the hospital and did not know of his passing until today. He will be missed.Rest in Peace my friend
