Freda Stella Harding Bourdon, 88 years young, passed away on October 26, 2014.
Freda was originally from Wootton, England and came to America as a military bride. She was known for her tenacity as well as her charitable nature. If she put her mind to something, it was going to get done. She liked to share that last year at 87 years old she raked up 120 bags worth of leaves that had fallen from the giant oaks and tulip trees in her back yard. She knitted countless hats over the years for the premature babies at the hospital as well as for the needy, and she volunteered for the Lions Club vision program. Freda’s parents and siblings predeceased her.
She leaves behind her daughter, Kathryn Bourdon Bateman and husband Roy; her daughter Linda Bourdon Rein and husband Paul, and her son Mark Bourdon; grandchildren Derek Bateman and wife Jessica, Chelsea Bateman, Stephanie Buxton, James Buxton, and Brooke Schultz and husband Chris; also two beautiful great grandchildren whom she adored, Olivia Bateman and Skylar Schultz.
A private gathering will be held at the pier on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, a place where Freda loved to go fishing over the years. Anyone wishing to honor Freda’s memory is encouraged to support their favorite charity.
Kathryn and family, So very sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I love the story in the obituary about her raking leaves. She sounds like she was a special and tenacious person.

So sorry for your loss Kathryn. May the memories of your times together sustain you and comfort you. Your mother sounds like she was quite a lively woman. God’s peace to you and your family.
We have been out of town, sorry to her about Freda’s passing. We have been neighbors for many years.Miss seeing her raking leaves or walking to the store refusing a ride wanting to get her excercise. We know she is a happier place.
Kathryn,
I am so sorry for your loss! I pray that you are comforted by the love and support of family and friends, and knowing that your mother is at peace with our Heavenly Father.
Love,
Jill
