Garrett Paul Fetterly was born August 23rd, 1983 and died in Norfolk on May 20th, 2015. Garrett is survived by his parents Mark Fetterly and Ellie Dinwiddie Fetterly and his brother Ross Fetterly (Susan Snyder-Stevens).
Garrett was a person who touched many lives. He was a gifted student who graduated from Granby High School where he received an IB Diploma while he was the captain of his beloved Granby Comets baseball team. He received a Pamplin Leadership Scholarship to Virginia Tech. Although he attended for only one year he remained a devoted Hokie. He was an integral part of his family’s business, lending insight and countless skills to the process of building and renovating homes. Garrett was born and raised in Norfolk, VA and was embraced by a broad and loving community. He loved his whole family deeply and was a tenderhearted animal lover. He sincerely believed in social justice for all.
While Garrett is gone from our sight, his spirit lives on in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him. Remembering him with love are his Grandmothers, Sheila Dinwiddie and Julie Fetterly. He was a cherished member of a large loving family which includes eight aunts and three uncles, eighteen first cousins, as well as a host of in-laws and in-loves and an extended family too great to number. The family wants to express their gratitude to all who loved and cared for Garett in his life and you know who you are.
A memorial service to celebrate Garrett’s life will be held on May 30th at the Unitarian Church of Norfolk (Unitarian-Universalist) at 2:00 PM. 739 Yarmouth Street, Norfolk.
