George Robert Gay, 89, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away October 3, 2022 (10 years and 15 days short of his goal of 100), surrounded by family. George was born on October 18, 1932, in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Louis and Angeline Gay.
After graduating from East High School in Green Bay, George went on to join the Navy on June 15, 1950. George spent the next 17 years building his Navy career, working his way up to Lieutenant. While in the Navy, George’s focus was on missile systems for a number of Navy ships. During all this, he also married the love of his life, Judy, and went to Perdue University to receive his bachelor’s degree. After his naval career, he transferred to Civil Service at Dam Neck Naval Base and retired as a Supervisory Computer Program Analyst.
Coming from Green Bay, you can imagine the support he had for his Packers. He also enjoyed woodworking projects, playing the accordion, playing croquet, and spending time with family.
George is survived by his daughters: Lois Teed (Dalton), Julie Wargo (Ed), Gayle Brown (Richard), Courtney Mellette (Frank); his son, Michael; his 10 grandchildren; and his 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents as well as his loving wife of 62 years, Judy Gay; his brothers: Jerry Gay and David Gay; his sister, Lois Gay; and his great grandchild, Isaac Richard Brown.
George will always be remembered as a loving husband, dad, pappy, grandpa, grandpappy, great grandpappy, and great grandpa.
