George W. Schaefer passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 27th, 2016 at the age of 88, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Winona , MN, George was the son of the late George M. and Frieda (Spitzak) Schaefer. George was a former Marine who served in China after WWII, and during the Korean War. He was a Chosin Reservior survivor. He retired from the USDA Natural Resource and Conservation Service after 32 years of service.

After he retired, he served as a District Director on the Virginia Dare Soil and Water Conservation District Board and the Resource Conservation and Development Council. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Virginia Beach.

George is survived by his wife of 37 years, Oksun Lee Schaefer; one daughter Linda Schaefer-Seinfeld (Steve), of Tarzana, CA.

A Memorial Service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, 5350 Providence Rd, Virginia Beach, VA on Saturday, July 30th, 2016 at 11:00 A.M.

    My mother & I would like to express our sincerest condolences to your family. Losing a loved one is one of the hardest things to deal with. We too know the pain of losing a loved one in death, no matter how much time goes by. The heart is always somewhat heavy.
