Hazel Okolovitch, a vibrant soul with a zest for life, bid us farewell on July 1, 2023. Born in the bustling heart of New York City on March 11, 1932, Hazel was a true New Yorker at heart. She embraced every day with an infectious enthusiasm and a quick-witted sense of humor that never failed to bring a smile to those around her.
With an insatiable love for adventure, Hazel pursued her passion for traveling throughout her remarkable journey. But it was Chincoteague ponies that held a special place in her heart. Hazel’s fascination for these majestic creatures knew no bounds, and she cherished any opportunity to be in their presence.
Hazel’s love for nature extended beyond the ponies alone. She had a genuine affection for all of God’s creatures, big and small. Whether it was marveling at the vibrant plumage of a bird or admiring the intricate patterns on a delicate butterfly, she found solace and joy in the natural world around her. Her appreciation for nature was a constant reminder of the simple yet profound wonders of life.
In Hazel’s 91 years, she nurtured and treasured her family above all else. Survived by her beloved children – Anne (Chester), Jack (Valerie), Jaye, and Edward (Diane) – she leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion. Her grandchildren – Melinda (Rick), Tim (Raye), Kay (Pat), Zach (Ashley), and Keli (Anthony) – were blessed to have her guiding light and wise counsel in their lives. And her great-grandchildren – Zach, Jason, Elliott, Connor, and Nora – will hear stories of her adventures and cherish her memory for generations to come.
Hazel was a beacon of light, radiating warmth wherever she went. Her joyful spirit and unwavering optimism touched the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. While we mourn her loss, let us also celebrate the remarkable life she lived and the joy she brought into our lives.
As we bid farewell to Hazel, may we remember her fondly as a cherished friend, a loving parent and grandparent, and a woman who embraced the wonders of the world with open arms. She will forever remain in our hearts, reminding us to find beauty in the simplest moments and to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us every day.
