
James Wilson “Jay” Bierman, 72, passed away December 13, 2012. Born March 20, 1940 in San Diego, CA, he was the son of the late Brigadier General Charles O. Bierman, USMC and Merla Mueller Bierman. He was a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after a distinguished career in the United States Marine Corps, earning a Bronze Star with Combat Distinguishing Service. As a civilian, he was an engineer with Northrup-Grumman. He loved golf, working on his 1966 Porsche, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Bierman; his son, Col. James W. “Chip” Bierman, Jr., USMC and his wife, Beth of Gainsville, VA; three daughters, Kim Bierman Newman and her husband, Toby of Temecula, CA, Kristen Bierman Cook and her husband, Dr. George Cook, and Beth Bierman Burns and her husband, David, all of Lynchburg, VA; a brother, Ted Bierman and his wife, Rene; and thirteen grandchildren, Nathan Bierman, Sam Bierman, Noelle Bierman, Maelyn Bierman, Alaina Bierman, Finn Malloy, Cole Newman, Kaitlyn Malloy, Woods Cook, James Cook, Harry Cook, Jake Burns, and Ace Burns.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at the Marine Honors Chapel, 3251 Embry Loop, Quantico, VA. A graveside service with full military honors will take place following at 1:30 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimers Association, (alz.org). Please share a condolence with the family via the Online Guestbook.

Jay Bierman and Ray Butchko went through Basic School at Quantico in 1962-63. He left a loving family in the care of his loving wife, Carol. He will be missed.
