
James Herbert Anthony Jr., the only child born to James and Izetta Anthony, was born in New York City on November 19, 1950, at Kings County Hospital in Manhattan, New York. He departed this life on June 15, 2023.
“Jimmy”, as he became known, then later in life Tony, grew up in Brooklyn, New York. His formal education included Public Schools: PS-53 (elementary), PS-145 (junior high), and finally automotive (vocational high school). During his lifetime Tony was affiliated with the United States Air Force as a Crew Chief. He worked on F-4 Phantoms Jet Fighters, and served a year (Nov 1970- Nov 1971) in Vietnam where he worked on A-37’s Dragonflies (Ground Attack Aircraft). He also worked on T-37 (Jet Trainers). He attained the rank of SGT/E-4. After a two-year stint as a civilian, he joined up with the United States Navy where he became a Yeoman (clerk). He attained the rank of Yeoman First Class/E-6. Petty Officer Anthony served onboard: USS CORAL SEA/CV-43, USS INDEPENDENCE/CV-62, USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER/CVN-69, all three being Aircraft Carriers. He then went on to serve on USS TRENTON/LPD-14. It was aboard the Trenton he participated in OPERATION Desert Shield/Desert Storm start to finish. After serving 23 years on active duty, he retired from the military in April 1992 and he became a long-distance truck driver. Tony became a member of Saint Andrews Christian Disciples of Christ located in Dudley, NC, both of which his parents were members also. He also studied with the Jehovah Witnesses. He is survived by his wife, Lula Maretha Anthony, his daughter Jami Katherine Raquel Anthony, his son Quentin Alexander Anthony, and his wife Chika of Jacksonville, NC along with his sons, three grandchildren: Nailae Mika, Yosun Vaughn, and Deontae. And a host of uncles, cousins, and friends.
Interment will be held at Albert G. Horton Veterans cemetery located in Suffolk, Va on June 5, 2023 at 1pm.
