
James Lee Lauer, 70, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, February 23, 2015 in Virginia Beach, VA. Born on November 29, 1944 in Columbus, OH, he was the son of Dr. Bernard Lauer and Evelyn Wallace Lauer. James was a veteran of the U.S.Navy where he served in Vietnam. After his military service, James attended Bowling Green State University where he earned his Master’s degree in Education. James spent his career as a teacher at New Milford High School in Connecticut. An avid reader and wine connoisseur, James loved to read about philosophy, psychology and history. He also loved spending time with his family and dearly loved his grandchildren. James will be remembered for his outstanding career in public education. Those around him will live out his life lessons.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Rachel Lauer of Virginia Beach, VA; a daughter, Alix Aebel of Virginia Beach, VA; a son Nicholas Lauer and his wife, Stephanie of Torrington, CT; a sister, Lindy Wyman and her husband, Dennis of Amelia Island, FL; three grandsons, Hunter Aebel of Virginia Beach, VA, and Ryan and Logan Lauer of Torrington, CT; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. in addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his sister, Janey Brewer of Tampa, FL.
