James John McLaughlin, 79, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at his home. Born in Scranton, PA and raised in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late James J. and Mary Gallagher McLaughlin and husband of the late Joan D. McLaughlin and the late Margaret M. McLaughlin.

He is survived by three daughters, Joann Gearhart and her husband, Raymond of Wichita Falls, TX, Jacqueline MacDonald and her husband, Timothy of Chesapeake, and Barbara Bader and her husband, David of Elizabeth City, NC; seven grandchildren, Matthew MacDonald, Nicole Kimbler and her husband, Brian, all of Chesapeake, Joseph King and his wife, Carrie of Germany, Christopher MacDonald and his wife, Ashley of Chesapeake, James Swan, Jacqueline Swan both of Elizabeth City, NC, and Joy Swan of Norfolk, VA; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul F. McLaughlin and his wife, Barbara, and Eugene McLaughlin and his wife, Susan all of Philadelphia, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 1st from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Rd., Philadelphia PA. A funeral mass will be offered Friday at 10:45 a.m. at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 212 Welsh Rd., Huntington Valley, PA. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham Ave. and Easton Rd. Glenside, PA.
