Jane Frost Wayland flew with Angel escorts to the arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 5, 2016. When Jane moved from Manassas to Virginia Beach in 1994, she declared she intended to “stay in this house until God called her home”. True to her word and the promises of God, “Miss Jane”, as she was lovingly known to so many, now happily and healthily resides in the mansion Jesus prepared for her in Glory! There is no doubt she was greeted and humbled by the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant”! And knowing Jane, she is already serving others in Heaven, most likely holding sweet babies and reading to children!
Jane was born on February 12, 1936, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Basil and Mildred Frost, and for 24 years, was the wife of the late Robert Wayland Jr. Jane earned her teaching degree from the University of Kentucky and a Masters in Administration from Peabody College. She taught first and second grade for many years, then became an Assistant Principal and Principal when those “glass ceilings” were just beginning to break. Jane retired at 55 from Prince William County Schools but stayed involved with the school system for several more years before her move to Virginia Beach. Jane attended and taught GA’s at First Baptist Norfolk until God asked her to help plant New Hope Church and subsequently, Essential Church, where she served joyfully for 16 years! Jane always proudly introduced herself to newcomers as “the Grandma of the church”; her smiling countenance and cuddly lap was appreciated and will be missed by so many!
Jane was blessed with so many loving friends and family who adored her. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren, and never hesitated to brag on them. Perhaps the highlight of her mortal life was having her grandson and granddaughter living around the corner for their childhood years. After Jesus Christ, she was her family’s greatest touchstone!
Jane became an avid traveler in mid-life, visiting many wonderful places around the U.S., Europe and Central America. In the days and years to come, Jane’s ashes will be returned to as many of those memorable destinations as possible.
Left to cherish her memory are, Laura Jane Wayland – Daughter – Virginia Beach, VA; Trish Wayland Wilson – Daughter – San Diego, CA; Rick Wilson – Son-in-Law – Denver, CO; Trevor Haremaker – Grandson – Costa Mesa, CA; Kaitlyn Haremaker – Granddaughter – Albuquerque, NM; Kees Haremaker – (Son-in-Love) Father of Grandchildren – Tavares, FL; Peggy Elliott – Sister – Marshall, TX; Leslie Williams – Niece – Marshall, TX; Kenny Elliott – Nephew – Marshall, TX; Sara, Eric Smith – Marshall, TX; Rebekah, Zoey and Israella Heinrich – Step granddaughters – Virginia Beach, VA. Not to exclude other nephews and nieces by marriage, multiple “surrogate” children and grandchildren, beloved by Miss Jane, near and far.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Essential Church, 4020 Ware Neck Dr. at Salem Rd. on Sunday, October 9, 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that Memorial Contributions be made to any of these three organizations closest to Jane’s heart:

Laura, Trish, Trevor, Kaitlyn and Peggy, I have so enjoyed getting to know Jane over the years. It was obvious she loved to be on the go as much as possible and loved every minute of her adventures. We’ve enjoyed meals together in both of our homes, playing Bunco together, going to the movies (Laura, too:-) and a special walk on the beach, joyful conversations and just plain hanging out. No matter how long in between visits, she always greeted me with that special wide smile on her face and made me feel she was happy to see me. One day when we went out to lunch, she easily struck up a conversation with a couple sitting across from us. She would have thought she had know them for years. A very warm and friendly lady for sure. Jane talked so often about her family and one could tell how tall she would stand then…so proud she was of each and every one of you. Always a kind word and smile for everyone, she reminded me a lot of my mom, whom I miss dearly. I’ll just bet Miss Jane and my mom might be hanging out in Heaven already. Thank you for sharing her with me over the years. She will be missed.

Laura and family – I’m so sorry for your loss but so glad I got to know your mom through the neighborhood activities. She was a sweet woman who I enjoyed seeing each month at bunko. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Jennifer
Dear Laura and Family,
Helen and I will always cherish the many memories we had with your mother. She will always be to us, “Grammie Jane”. When we were dating she opened her home in Manassas for Helen to spend the night and treated us to many meals. She provided both many laughs and needed wisdom.
When we moved to Va. Beach you both soon followed. We were so happy to have you near by. When Jonathan was born your mom became to him also Grammie Jane. Her love, joy, laughter, and walk with the Lord were such an example and encouragement. We had many a meal and visit during those years. We know she is rejoicing with the Savior she loved and served so faithfully. May the Lord bless you!
