
Jay D. Beckett, Sr., 78, passed away peacefully April 22, 2015 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Beckett was born April 11, 1937 in Hammond, IN to the late Edison and Avis Beckett. He served our country proudly in the U.S. Navy for a number years. After his time in the U.S. Navy, he began working with DuPont as pipefitter until his retirement. In 1989 he became the owner of Beckett’s Floodwood Lake Resort in Hibbing, MN. Jay loved being outdoors fishing and being with his family. Mr. Beckett will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 55 years, Freda Beckett; two sons: Jay Beckett, Jr. and wife Audrey, Thomas Beckett and wife Angie; daughter, Thomasina Wilmer; four grandchildren: Jessica Beckett, Tiffany Wilmer, Paige Wilmer and Landon Hudson; one great-grandson, Jaden Williams and son-in-law, Larry Hammersly. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Hammersly.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm, Sunday April 26, 2015 at Family Choice Funerals & Cremations. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm, Monday April 27, 2015 at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Suffolk.

I am so sorry for your loss , I will always remember Jay for all the fun we had as kids on shell st and He and my father playing baseball with us and for the taco nights they had , He was a good man and I will always remember him. May he rest in peace and may God comfort you all.
