Joan Dodd Baker, 87, passed away Thursday December 5, 2013. She was the namesake for JD Baker and Sons Concrete. She is predeceased by her husband, Edmond Lee Baker and a son, Buddy (Edmond Franklin) Baker, Sr.
She was a WWII bride who uprooted her entire life to marry a soldier. Life was foreign to her in her new home but she made it her very own, forging and maintaining relationships that made her the lynchpin of a large family and friends who would be there whenever she called. She spent over 44 years selling real estate for Rose and Womble and Wainwright, always going the extra mile to help people achieve their dream of owning a home. Joan was full of determination and strength. She was truly one of the last of her kind. She will be dearly missed.
She was mother to five children – Pearl Crichton, Buddy (Edmond Franklin) Baker, Sr. (2000), Randy Baker, Lisa Robinson and Howard Baker. Grandmother to Buddy (Edmond Franklin) Baker Jr. (2011), Joseph Baker, Kim Baker, Mark Baker, Tracey Broadhead, Christopher Crichton, Benjamin Baker, Kristen Baker, Travis Robinson, Brandon Baker, Jared Baker, Dodd Baker, Cody Childress, and Randy Baker, Jr. She was also blessed with too many great-grandchildren to list.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 pm, Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Family Choice Funerals and Cremations. 5401 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach 23464. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Rosewood Memorial Park. Please share your condolences with the family at www.familychoicefunerals.com

Aunt Joan was a very special person. She was there if you need her. I will miss her, but I know that she is in a better place, and she is with all of our family that has gone to the other side. And that makes me happy.
