Our loving mother, Joan S. Boyd, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 25 at the age of 87. She was welcomed into her heavenly home with Jesus as He promised, “In my Father’s house there are many mansions and He has gone to prepare a place for us.” John 4:2. She was born on October 5th, 1935 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
As an immersed baptized believer of Christ, she leaves behind her Christian legacy to three children, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Joan loved having family gatherings, babysitting, and singing to her grandchildren, cooking, baking, and decorating for the holidays. She loved visiting her birthplace of Lancaster, Pa and seeing the Amish horse and buggies, eating all the great food, and visiting the Amish farmers market.
Joan served the city of Virginia Beach as a police and fire dispatcher for several years. She now joins many of her co-workers in heaven and is having so much fun laughing with Pat, Gail, Heather, and Claire. Joan also devoted twenty+ years of service to Sentara Leigh Hospital as a front desk volunteer. There she met many friends and loved greeting and talking to people. She always had a smile and candy to share.
The family wishes to express gratitude to caregivers June Pope and Mary Paul, but mostly to her son Charles Boyd Jr for his many years of devoted loving care and advocacy on her behalf. Joan will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Her legacy will continue for generations with our treasured memories we hold dearly.
A graveside service will be Tuesday, May 2 at 3:00 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens; 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502.
