
Joel Dean Kersey Jr., 65, passed away on Thursday, July 21st, 2016 in Virginia Beach. Born on October 3rd, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of Joel and Theresa Kersey. Mr. Kersey worked as a Police Officer for Chesapeake Police Department and later went on to the Buncombe County Sheriffs Department.
He is survived by (Wife) Patricia; (Daughter) Tricia (Riz) Abbott; (Grandchildren) Ian, Aaron, Ava, Exie, Elijah, Amarissa, Aslan, Alyssa; (Cousins) Joel Kersey, Charles Kersey, Donna Hamm, Janie Hallman, (Neice) Emily Kersey; (Best Friends) Ernie Downs, Dennis Hutchison; (Pets) Mac & Freda.
He was preceded in death by (Siblings) Kathy and Ed Kersey; (Pets) Beau, Buster and Daisey.
His ashes are going to be spread on the Suwannee River. Joel lived and died by his moto ” You can’t cheat on honest men”, ” When your numbers up, your numbers up. Joel was a determinded, courageous and witty man. His word was his bond, and a hand shake was better than a signed contract. He loved life and his family,

I am saddened to hear of Joel’s passing. We had lost touch over the years, but I always had fond memories of knowing and working with Joel on Chesapeake PD. So long, Joel. May you rest in peace.
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Joel. Joel was always Dennis’s closest friend throughout his life and I always felt that Joel kept Dennis in line. Thank you so much for thinking of Dennis in the wonderful tribute to Joel. Dennis would have been truly honored.
