John Carl Matolek, 60, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away April 6, 2022. He is survived by his niece, April Romero (Steven), great nephew, Jayden Schwabenbauer, and great niece, Payton Romero. He is preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Matolek (Blake), father, James C Matolek Sr, brother, James C Matolek Jr, and sister, Barbara Bishop.
John was born on October 1, 1961, in Norfolk, Virginia to James C Matolek Sr. and Catherine Blake Matolek. He graduated from Princess Anne High School in 1980 and spent many years as an EMT helping the communities where he resided. He later used these skills to provide loving care to his father.
John will always be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. When he wasn’t rooting for the Green Bay Packers, you could find him going for a drive with the windows down and feeling the breeze on his face. He loved a good home-cooked meal and some Diet Coke, but his next favorite meal was a good hamburger from McDonalds. If you knew him in his younger years, you would know the mischievous antics he and his brother, Jimmy, would get into. There are many memories that involve loud music and ballpoint pens. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, who will find comfort in these memories.

John was my Brother-in-Law, once married to my sister and forever my Brother! I have more memories than I can share, and some that are highly inappropriate! Took many long drives, listening to loud music, with John. He was such a great person, I am so sad to learn of his passing. God has gained a beautiful soul. My condolences to his family and friends!
John will be missed greatly. He was a part of my family for many years and they all loved him dearly. He never had children but he was Daddy to my daughter and she was always his “brat child” or “runt”. Just as I was daughter to his dad before he passed years ago. John will always be missed and love by his “South Carolina family”.
It was an honor and a blessing to care for John for a couple of decades. I always enjoyed the time we shared. He was a wonderful son to Jim, and brother to Barb and Jimmy. We had the opportunity to know and care for each of them, and to witness their love for one another. We will miss seeing him. Prayers for his family and friends.
