
John B. Franklin, Jr. retired Chief Petty Officer, 86, passed away May 28, 2012 in Norfolk. He is the son of the late John B. Franklin, Sr. and Lillie Mae Perry Franklin. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Betty Franklin and a brother Lloyd Franklin. He served proudly in the United States Navy serving in World War II, Korean War and was selected for submarine service under Admiral Rickover. He served on numerous ships and submarines to include the USS Stickell, USS Yellowstone, USS Billfish, USS Tirante, USS Bugara, and USS Seadragon. His devotion to duty measured up to the high standards of the USN Submarine Force. He later retired after 21 years of service as a Chief Petty Officer.
He is survived by his daughter, Denise Edwards and her husband, James; sons, John Franklin, III, Phillip Franklin and his wife, Sylvia, and John E. Morrison; siblings, Mary Furr, Donna Greene, Larry Franklin and Ralph Franklin; grandchildren, Kristina Shorter and her husband, David, James Edwards and his wife, Betsy, John B. Franklin,IV, and his wife, Ashley, Phillip Franklin, II, Kenneth Franklin and his wife, Amber, and Zachary Franklin; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 am at Family Choice Funerals & Cremations, 5401 Indian River Rd, Virginia Beach.
