Chief John J McCarron passed away on March 29th at his home in Chesapeake, Virginia. The Chief (as he was called) served in the Navy during Korea and Viet Nam and was also on duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-70 and in the reserves until 1981. He taught Navy Jr. ROTC at First Colonial High School for 20 years.
Chief McCarron was born in Malden, Massachusetts on January 6, 1933 as the son of John J McCarron Sr. and Alice Magner McCarron. He was 85 years old.
He is survived by his 5 children, Billy McCarron; John (Bud) McCarron and his wife Mary, Theresa Kendrick and her husband Coley; Mary Alice Jordan; and Ann Marie Shaw and her husband Joe. He had 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
The things he loved the most was his late wife, Judy Jane Samuels; serving his country in the Navy; Teaching Navy ROTC at First Colonial High School; and playing golf at Eagle Haven in Little Creek. He also loved sports and was a huge fan of the Washington Redskins, Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, New England Patriots and Notre Dame Football.
The Chief was a life member of VFW-392, a member of the Eagle Haven Men’s Golf Association; Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 99; and F.O. UDT/Seal; and a member of the First Colonial High School Hall of Fame.
He will buried with Military Honors at Albert G. Horton Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd., Suffolk, Va. 23434 at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, April 4th.
