
John Benders Weeks, Jr. (Nookie), 69, passed away peacefully November 17, 2013 in Norfolk, VA. Born April 11, 1944 in Beaufort, NC, he was the son of the late John Benders Weeks, Sr. and Mildred Willis Weeks. John retired from the Navy as a Quartermaster Chief Petty Officer in 1984 after 21 years of dedicated service. Afterward, John worked at Family Motors, and later served as a Service Writer for Norfolk Marine, Lynnhaven Marine, and, most recently, Shore Drive Marine. He enjoyed his retirement years bowling, playing poker online, boating, fishing, and hanging out with his buddies at Citgo on Great Neck Road.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Gladys Magruder Weeks; daughters, Patricia Deigert and her husband, Dave, JoAnn Weeks Carter and her husband, Craig, Karrie Weeks Snyder and her husband, Wally, and Kristie Baker: grandchildren, Johnathon Vendt and his wife, Jessica, Stephen Vendt, Michael Wayne Rockwell, Candice Elizabeth Baker, Jessica Deigert, D.J. Deigert, and Kristina Nicole Baker; and great-grandchildren, Maya, Kayla, Izabel, Prysilla, Brianna, and Emma. John is preceded in death by dear friends George and Terri Kollarik, and his buddy, Shadow.
A Memorial Service with military honors will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Family Choice Funerals & Cremations, 5401 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Courtland Baptist Church Building Fund, Youth Fund or Childrens Fund, Courtland Baptist Church, P.O. Box 148, Courtland, VA 23837.
Mr. Weeks served our country proudly with over 20 years of dedicated service in the U.S. Navy.

It was always fun hanging out with you in Virginia Beach. Even though I didn’t get a chance to sit on the porch and sip some beers with you with the sun setting, we’ll reschedule one day. There’s a spot waiting for us on Playa de La Caleta in Cádiz, Spain as well. You know what I’m talking about! Keep an eye on my mom for me. Love you!
