PHC Joseph Flores Davila, Jr., USN (Ret.), 87, passed away peacefully in his home in Chesapeake, VA on May 20, 2014. Born on September 21, 1926 in Havana, Cuba, he was the son of the late Joseph Flores Davila, Sr. and Agnes McGill Davila, and husband of the late Mary Elizabeth Budlong Davila. After graduating high school, Joseph served in the United States Navy where he worked as a Photographer’s Mate. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of honorable and faithful service. Joseph enjoyed taking pictures and had a successful second career, both in sales and as a photographer, in the photography industry. When not behind the camera, Joseph enjoyed wood working, metal detecting and camping. A big fan of music, he enjoyed listening to Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass. Joseph had a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ and loved to read his Bible and fellowship with other believers. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Petuya of Reno, NV; son, Charles J. Davila of Isleton, CA; grandchildren, Pamela Hand of Vallejo, CA, Behrooz Shafi of Pinole, CA, Wendy Hand of Platena, CA, Robyne Hakes and her husband, Jeff of Nappanee, IN, Paul Hand and his wife, Jennifer of Sacramento, CA, Michelle Davila of Los Angeles, CA, Brook Petuya of Reno, NV, Jacob Wade of CA, and Christina Wade of NY; great grandchildren, Serna Crea and her husband, Charlie of Rota, Spain, Ava Hand of Sacramento, CA, and Lorraine and Emma Hakes of Nappanee, IN; and great-great grandchildren, Kristen McCoy of Reno, NV and Ashlen and Cloey Crea of Rota, Spain.
Inurnment will be at a private ceremony at Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
