
VIRGINIA BEACH- Joseph Walter Gaskill, Sr., 74, passed away December 1, 2012 in Virginia Beach. Proudly serving his country in the United States Navy as Chief of the boat (COB) on the USS POLLACK and retiring after 20 years of service. He was an active Mason of the Moosup Lodge 113 in Moosup, CT. A lifetime member of the VFW post 392, he enjoyed cars, drinking beer with his buddies and spending time with his beloved family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Myrna; daughter, Annette ; son, Joseph, Jr. and his wife, Lynne; sister, Theodosia; grandchildren, Shelby and Sean.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday from 2- 4 at the VFW Post 392, 2408 Bowland Parkway, Virginia Beach. Entombment will be held Wednesday at 12 noon at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery with full military honors, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk. Online condolences may be offered at WWW.FamilyChoiceFunerals.com.

Im saddened by Mr. Gaskills passing. He was like a father figure to me. We have had a lot of talks about old cars over the years. Gonna miss seeing him in the garage and waving to him when i drive by.He was a great guy.

Our deepest sympathy in the passing of Joe. I enlisted in The Navy in 1971 with Joe’s nephew, Frank. Joe squared us away while we were in Sub School,and helped us to get orders to the same boat. Frank got out, but I stayed in and went on to be a COB like Joe. Sailor, rest you oar.E
