Kim Alan Sears, 60 of Norfolk Virginia, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2016.
Mr. Sears was born in Greencastle, Indiana on August 16, 1955 and was the son of the late Stanley Alvin and Georgiana Hayes Sears. He retired from Norshipco (BAE Systems) after 27 years and lived with his beloved wife of 38 years, Wanda Kay “Spanky” Sears. Mr. Sears attended SonRise Christian Church in Virginia Beach, VA.
Mr. Sears is survived by his two sons Jon Alan Sears (Kimberly) and their daughters Hayley and Sydney. Jesse Lee Sears Sr., (Ali Harrison) and his daughter Jaila and son Jesse Jr. Kim’s three brothers, Michael Sears (Tonya) and their son Michael Jr., Robin Sears, David Sears and his son Austin Sears and daughter Jessica Carmichael and Kim’s one sister Cinda Marie Brant (Terry) and their son Christopher Brant and daughter Alicia Brant Hazelwood.
There have been many friends who have been there for Kim and his family over the years, most notably Terry Massey who served many roles in their 35 years together, as best friend, live-in care giver, and right hand to any need that Kim and Spanky ever needed. His friendship and love has been invaluable. Robin Elings who provided support and love over the years and who would go above and beyond not only for Kim and Spanky but was there over the years caring for and loving Spanky’s parents until their death, Fred and Kim Guertin who would jump to do anything Kim and Spanky ever wanted or needed. In Kim’s final hours, Kim Guertin was always at bedside caring for him, talking to him and reassuring him that everything would be alright, and Bill and Sandi Dennis who always took Kim on Sunday drives and even took him back to his hometown of Greencastle, Indiana for Christmas one year and many other trips throughout his life. Pastor Steve and Cathy Smith who came to the house when Kim was no longer able to travel to church, who visited, prayed with them and offered God’s word and fellowship.
Additionally, the family would like to recognize the Sentara Hospice Team, especially Terri Coleman who cared for Kim and hugged, loved and held Spanky in her time of grief and despair. She gave guidance and support when it was so needed and appreciated yet hard to hear. Dr. Allen Fenderson who was Kim’s doctor and family friend for so many years and went beyond the call of duty to render professional treatment, advice, support and love to the family, Dr. Urbano who, over the years, served the roll of friend, confident and treating physician. Her unwavering candid advice and support was much appreciated. Charlene Morring, their attorney and close friend who has guided them, loved them and without her continued support, nothing could have been possible. Lastly, Marley, Kim’s beloved best friend and cat who never ever left his side over the years. During the numerous times Kim was in the hospital, Marley would lie in Kim’s spot and keep it warm until his return home. Thank you all for giving Kim the quality of life he so deserved, right to the end.

Wanda,
I never met Kim but know that you were the most dedicated and loving wife any man could have. Prayers are with you and his family at this time.
For thirty eight years I stood by you, and you stood by me. We raised two wonderful sons, traveled, joked and loved. You were my light and the breath in my soul every day of your life. Our marriage was not 50-50, it was 100-100. We both gave it our all right to the very end. I could never have asked for a better husband than you. My love will go on in life and beyond for you. Your are and always have been…my everything. I love you baby.
Wanda and family, deepest sympathy and condolences to all of you for Kim’s passing.
I was so sorry to hear about Kim. He will be missed by so many people. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers through the coming day.
Sheila
I always knew Kim as Alan. We grew up together and graduated together. They lived close to us and we were in 4-H together. I extend my deepest condolences to all of his family. My prayers are with you.
I am so sorry to read of Kim’s passing. He was a friend from Greencastle and will be sorely missed by all but he is now with old friends and family and starting on his next journey. I will say a prayer for him to help ease his passage to the next world.
