
Leonard Nicholas Moe, 77, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013 in Virginia Beach, VA. Born September 8, 1936 in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of the late Leonard Daniel Moe and Elizabeth Walker McIlroy Moe and husband of the late Barbara Gale Moe. Leonard served honorably in the United States Navy, retiring after 30 years of service as a Master Chief Aviation Maintenance Administrationman (AZCM). His naval career included service in the theaters of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Leonard served on numerous ships including USS HORNET (CV-12), and completed four tours onboard USS AMERICA (CV-66). Shore commands included Naval Air Station Barbers Point, Hawaii, and NAS Norfolk and NAS Oceana in Virginia. Leonard also completed an overseas deployment in Antarctica where he “Wintered Over.” In addition to his in-rate tours in aviation maintenance, Leonard served as a Navy Command Career Counselor. He adored his grandchildren and enjoyed his years in retirement spending time with them and his family.
Left behind to cherish his loving memory are sons, Randall Moe, and David Moe and Ms. Carolyn Wade; sister, Marie Moe; and grandchildren, Cory, Christian, and Kyra Moe.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 4 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 3900 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23452 with the Pastor, Rev. Aaron DeBenedetto officiating. Inurnment will be private.
