
CHESAPEAKE – Linwood M. Ewell, 93, of Chesapeake, passed away on November 5, 2010. A native of Portsmouth, he was the son of the late Clarence and Millie Jones Ewell and husband of the late Virginia Mae Ewell. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and a Purple Heart from his service in World War II in the Italian Campaign. He retired as an Electronic Measurement Equipment Mechanic from Norfolk Naval Air Rework Facility after thirty-four years of service.
He is survived by a daughter, Gloria Tappe of Chesapeake; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude to his care-givers, Sheila, Melanie, Carolyn, Casi, and Tabatha.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Family Choice Funerals & Cremations, 5401 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 12 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby Street, Norfolk. I am sorry to hear of Linwood’s passing. It was an honor for me to have worked with him at NARF (Naval Air Rework Facility,) later renamed Naval Aviation Depot (NADEP) in Norfolk. I worked with him in the Calibration Lab when Mr. Robert Walker was our supervisor. His military service for our country is impressive, again I am honored to have worked with him.
