Mike Lestik, 89, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 5th, 2018. Born to Michael and Ann Lestik on November 14th, 1928, in Scranton, Pa, he learned about hard work watching his dad work in the coal mines. Early on Mike found his passion for life in music! And it was clear to all that Mike had a God given talent. Even as he raised a family with his wife, Barbara, Mike was known as the “singing plumber”, crooning out melodies as he worked at his job. After raising their family, Mike and Barbara answered the call that God had placed on their lives, and entered the full time mystery. For over 50 years Mike sang and preached as he traveled the world, sometimes with his two boys, David and Mark, and for many of those years just him and his wife.
God opened thousands of doors and Mike stepped through all of them, bringing the Gospel to tens of thousands of people, His recordings of gospel music have gone even farther than he has, touching many mores lives. He leaves behind an example of Christ-centered living, and while his music lingers here for us to enjoy, he is now singing in heavens great choir, hoping we will all join him one day.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara, 3 children, Barbara, Michael and David, 6 brothers and sisters, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He joins his son Mark, who went ahead of him. A “celebration of life’ service will be held on November 3rd 2018 at Congregational Church, 1514 Sparrow Road, Chesapeake, VA 23325 at 11:00 am.
