Phillip Thomas Jenkins was born October 13, 1946 in Nassawadox, Virginia to proud parents, the late Phillip Thomas Sr and Mary Esther Jenkins. He was the eldest of two children.
Deacon Phil was a man of integrity, who loved God, loved his wife, Della, and loved his family. His eyes would light up when spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson. They were his pride and joy. It was like Christmas time for him. He looked for opportunities to teach them about God’s creation and show them the things that he loved. As a youth, he took pleasure in hunting, fishing and boating. One of his passions was hunting for shark teeth on the beach in Cambridge, Maryland. He also loved horses so much that he lived the dream of owning a pony as a child. He spent time with his father training bird dogs for hunting. Deacon Phil was very close to his family.
He enlisted in the Coast Guard in January 1966, attending Recruit Training in Cape May, New Jersey. He was stationed in Groton, Conneticut; Jacksonville, Florida; New Orleans, Louisiana; Cape May, New Jersey; Houston,Texas; ending his 23-year career at the US Coast Guard Aviation Technical Training Center (ATTC) in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. While at the ATTC, he designed the Performance Improvement Analysis procedures and the curriculum for the Aviation School, which is still used by the school to this day. He was the first and highest ranking Chief Warrant Officer in the Coast Guard once he achieved the rank of CWO4. He was also a plank owner at the school, opening it in 1980.
Deacon Phil received Christ as His Lord and Savior in March 2004 while attending Monument of Joy Breakthrough Ministries. Soon after being saved, He was ordained as a Deacon, where he served faithfully as the Men’s Ministry Team Leader. He mentored several young men during his tenure as the Men’s Ministry Leader. Deacon Phil served his Pastor faithfully, accompanying him often on long distance trips and being by his side when needed. He also took charge of the media ministry, placing sermons by Apostle Zoe El on podcasts, and recording Apostle’s book, “Pattern of Purpose” on an audio cd.
As his health declined, he remained faithful, always reciting Psalms 118:17, “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” In spite of his pain, Deacon Phil encouraged others, never complaining to his visitors. He always displayed unconditional love and forgiveness, being an example of His Heavenly Father.
