Robert “Bob” A. Marques, 91, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on February 3, 2015. He was born in Brownsville, Texas in 1923 to Manuel and Maria Marques, the next to youngest of five children. He moved to the Washington, D.C. area as a youth, and lived there for over five decades. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorraine Grace Marques, whom he married in 1947, and by his three sisters, his brother, and a grandson.
Bob loved his country, and as a volunteer joined the Navy in 1942, serving as a Radioman during World War II. For his service he received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Purple Heart Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Radioman Second Class. Bob was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for many years, and enjoyed the fellowship of his fellow servicemen.
Following his discharge from the Navy, Bob returned to work at Eastman Kodak, and continued to work there until his retirement over 40 years later as a Supervisor with their photofinishing plant in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
During his retirement, Bob and Lorraine moved to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware where they enjoyed boating, fishing, crabbing, and life on the Rehoboth Bay. They also enjoyed time spent with their daughter and her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They, of course, treasured the many friends they had in the community.
Left to cherish his memory is their one child, Dolores Morell, and her husband, Randy, and three grandchildren: Yvonne Chiarenza, wife of Lt. Colonel David Chiarenza; Elisha Latkovich, wife of Robert Latkovich; and Nathaniel Morell. In addition Bob is remembered by his four great-grandchildren: Jason Chiarenza, Alexandra Chiarenza, Aslin Latkovich, and Zaden Latkovich. He will also be missed by his nephew, his five nieces, and their families.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Monday, February 9, 2015, at 1:30 pm at Marian Manor Assisted Living Community in Virginia Beach, Virginia where Bob lived at the time of his passing. Interment will take place on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at 11:00 am at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Special Olympics Virginia. The website for Special Olympics is http://specialolympicsva.org

Dearest Dee, Randy, Nate, and Family,
What a beautiful video tribute! This is the way I have always seen Bob in my mind’s eye…..smiling, with that innate gentility and quiet Grace that emanated from him at all times. He was a truly special man, and the entire family was blessed to have him with us on Earth for these many years– and now watching over us and waiting for us to join him one day in the glorious Kingdom that awaits us! Thank you, Lord Jesus, for Robert Marques!
Dear, precious Dee and family — our thoughts and prayers are constantly with you these last several days. We just viewed that wonderful video that so honors your dad. As you know, your dad quickly became beloved in our lives. We feel honored to have known him for over 20 years. Bob was always gracious, caring, kind, and greeted us with that great smile of his. He had a good word for everyone. Dee, you were really blessed to have such a wonderful father. Thank you for sharing him with the rest of us. We will always remember him with great affection. With much love, Karen and Tom
