Norman Scott Holmes, 46, passed away peacefully February 6, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
“Scott” as he was affectionately known by his family and friends was born July 14, 1967 in Marshalltown, Iowa to the late Dennis and Eileen Maytag Holmes. He still had so many adventures ahead of him, it was amazing how much he looked forward to explore experience and do. Scott was a great lover of life and there were never enough hours in the day for home to learn and consume those passions. He loved helping people. You would often find him working on cars for family and friends, helping strangers with various jobs, or bringing a smile to the face of a child. In general, his wide spread curiosity about life was amazing, just like the man. He left this earth so suddenly, leaving his family and friends in shock and sorrow. Scott leaves a legacy of love, humor and friendship. Scott was the type man that men should aspire to be.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 13 years, Shannon Holmes; daughter, Brittney Holmes; son, Zachary Holmes; sister, Alicia Purdy and a step-father, Payne Jordan.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 pm, Monday, February 10, 2014 at Family Choice Funerals & Cremations. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the funeral home.

In these trying times our prayers and thoughts are with all of you and your family. I am so sorry for your loss.
Scott Shannon and my family used to spend many hours together. much of it at Chics beach where we’d pack a lunch and spend all day when Alex was a baby. I’ll never forget one particular time where Scott brought his jet ski and took me on the back and wildly jumped waves. I was in horror but had so much fun. when I got thrown off Scott jumped in too. he teased me because at the time I was smaller and could get back on by the side without tipping it. he got suck a kick out of that. oh Scotty you will be missed!!! Shani-doll I cannot imagine what you and your family are feeling! love and prayers!!!
Alicia…you and your family are in my heart and prayers hon. Love you

With Deepest Sympathy to Scott’s family. I work in the Transportation Dept. Norfolk, and knew Scott through work. He was a great guy and hard worker who cared about his job, family and others. He will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure to know him.
I was shocked today when I heard the news of Scotts passing. Scott and I were great friends in high school. He was a wonderful friend, I wish we’d have kept in touch over the years. I ran into him about 10 years ago and it was like we’d never skipped a beat, he was that kind of guy, once a friend always a friend. I’ve always felt blessed with him as a friend. To his family, please know you are in my heart, thoughts and prayers. God Bless you all.
Scott and I dated in High School and he treated me wonderful and was always there for me. I am upset that I didn’t keep in touch with him since the last time I saw him was Bayside class reunion at the beach. I am sorry that he is gone but God has a wonderful man with him in heaven. My prayers go out to the family and friends that remember him well. He will be missed so much and again I am so sorry for your loss.
