Scott Park, 64, died January 30, 2023 at his home in Virginia Beach, VA after a long and resolute battle against a number of chronic illnesses. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ellen, his four children, Raynor, Sarah, Terrio, and Anna, and his three grandchildren, Hazel, Ira, and Ellis, as well as his older brother, Larry.
Born in Durham, NC on May 31, 1958 to Lawrence and Marjorie Park, Scott spent most of his childhood in Wilmington, NC. He graduated from NC State in 1981, where he served as a Chancellor’s Aide and was an active member of Delta Upsilon. Shortly after marrying, he and Ellen moved to Virginia, where he accomplished a 37-year career as an environmental engineer for the Naval Department of the U.S. Government.
Scott loved God and always sought to glorify Him with his life. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Norfolk for 39 years, where he served as a beloved mentor in the youth ministry. He also enjoyed raising funds to provide financial support for children through Compassion International.
His most cherished past-time was cheering on his favorite sports teams: San Fransisco Giants baseball, San Fransisco 49ers football, and NC State everything. Chatty from childhood, “Scooter” never met a stranger and loved to share stories, both funny and wise, with any listening ear.
From 2007 until his death, Scott fought to overcome an ongoing list of medical illnesses. He beat unpredictable odds for many years and contributed to medical research through his ongoing treatments. He lived, through sickness and health, by the motto “Never Give Up” and was an inspiration to all he crossed paths with through his medical journey. Even until his last breath, Scott never gave up his will to live and love with purpose and integrity.
A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 pm, Sunday, February 5th, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Norfolk.

Scott was an amazing co-worker and friend. I had the pleasure of working with him for many years. I remember many days that I would come into work, wishing I wasn’t there, that Scott would come over to my desk and make me laugh and try to get me to sign up for one of his basketball/football pools.
Even though I have not seen Scott in years, I have kept up with his stories and kept him and his family in my prayers.
Scott will be truly missed but knowing that he is no longer in pain and is with the Lord, hopefully will bring some comfort to the family.
Ellen,
I worked with Scott at NAVFAC and while our paths did not cross often, when they did I was always impressed with his knowledge and dedication. He was good person who was easy to talk to, especially during football and basketball seasons. My condolences to you and your family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Scott’s family at his homegoing…
He had been through a lot but was always an inspiration…we are so thankful and blessed to have known him…we are also thankful that we know where he is and Who he is with right at this moment…
Dear Ellen,
Scott inspired others by his motto, ‘Never Give Up’ and provided an inspiration to our Church Family and Friends over many years. He certainly fought a great fight and finished the race while serving the Lord and helping our younger generations have direction and love for each other and the Lord.
I’m sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Jeff
Ellen and family. Virginia and I enjoyed meeting you and Scott many years ago through Bert and Nancy Harrell. We enjoyed those times and the friendship. Praying for comfort and peace during this difficult time.
My empathy to the Park family, Scott and I shared many stories of family and life. Know that family was very important to him. May comfort and peace keep you during this time of your journey. Earth knows no sorrow that Heaven can not heal. Praying for the family. (Environmental Division)
Ellen, your love for Scott was definitely shown throughout the years you suffered with him. Every step you took in the years he needed you you were there. God is good that he took him home at this time, no more suffering, Scotts in Heaven, not suffering anymore.
