
Sheryl Diane Barnes, 68, of the 5200 block of Settlers Park Dr., Virginia Beach, passed away on February 28, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Born January 15, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Albert Weeks and Odessa Wilson Weeks. She worked as a teacher’s assistant for Virginia Beach Public Schools and retired from the Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation Department with a total of 25 years of dedicated service.
She is survived by her daughters, Karin Washington, of Raleigh, NC, and Linda Smith of Chesapeake, VA; a son, Christopher Washington and his wife, Kay of Queens, NY; a brother, Todd Weeks of Virginia Beach, VA; five grandchildren; and a host of loving family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Abounding Grace Church, 445 Kempshire Lane, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.

I am so sorry to hear about Sheryl Barnes death. To her it is a departure from here to Heaven. I will miss her infection smile and laugh and internal joy that only God could give.

Linda, Karin, and Chris, it has been quite some time since we have seen each other and/or been in contact. My sympathy to you and your families on the loss of your mother. If there is one thing I can say that sticks out as a memory of Sheryl is her wonderful laugh! No matter what was going on; she was always able to get a laugh out of me and anyone else that might have been around. She will be greatly missed. Please hold onto to those wonderful memories.

My heart and prayers go out to the family. Although I have seen Ms. Washington in ages, I remember her as so loving and a lot of fun. She sent a lot of time with us at church and doing fun activities. God’s peace. RIP awesome woman of God.
