
Walter (Walt) Francis Ryan, passed away on Friday, March 10th, 2017 in the comfort of his home.
Walt Ryan was born February 16, 1943. He served our country proudly in the U.S. Navy, retiring after 21 years as a Chief Petty Officer; Master at Arms. After retiring from the Navy, Walt was self employed. Ultimately, he returned to his love of law enforcement and public service by landing his dream job as a Probation and Parole Officer for the state of Virginia. Walt was committed for 20 years to reforming all he served as their “PO” .
Walt married his beautiful bride Mildred “Millie” Ryan in 1967; who he affectionately called “Wind Beneath His Wings”. Together they raised two children. Walt and Millie would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July of this year.
In addition to leaving behind his wife Millie, son Walter, and daughter Paula and son in-law Mark, he leaves behind 5 grandchildren-Lauren, Paulina, Ian, Anastasia, and Max and his brother Michael.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am, Friday, March 17, 2017 at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Wounded Warriors or St. Jude Children Hospital.
