Wanda Jean Rice, age 73, went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2023. She was born on March 17, 1949, in Greenville, South Carolina, to Coley L. and Jeneva S. Mann.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved sons: Kevin Rice and his wife, Denee’ of Norfolk, Virginia; Adam Rice and Jason Rice of Virginia Beach, Virginia; her sister: Bobbie Jo McDonald of Greenville, South Carolina; a large extended family, and dear friends. Preceding her in death was her husband of 30 years, Newell “Brooks” Rice.

As a child of 11, Wanda trusted Christ for salvation and was baptized at her Church of God in Greenville, South Carolina. Her faith guided her as she lived out the Bible verse, “It is more blessed to give than receive.” Her selfless generosity is well known among her friends and family. Giving gifts was her love language.

Wanda graduated from Parker High School in Greenville, South Carolina in 1967. She married “Brooks” Rice in 1973, and they raised their three sons in Virginia Beach.

Wanda’s sons were her pride and joy. Birthdays at Chuck E. Cheese, going to the circus, playing at McDonalds’ playgrounds, and skating were among the many activities Wanda enjoyed with her boys when they were young.

In later years, Wanda worked at QVC and as a home health care provider, where she was a trusted caretaker and companion to those she served.

Wanda’s sense of humor and signature laugh were hallmarks of her spirited, loving character. Words cannot express how much she will be missed.

A graveside service will be held Thursday; February 9th, 2023, at 12 noon, in Woodlawn Cemetery in Norfolk.
